Konnichiwa! I am Masano, a native Japanese speaker and a certified Japanese language teacher. I was born and raised in Shizuoka City (in central Japan) and now live in Tokyo.

I have experience teaching Japanese to students ranging from beginner to advanced levels. I specialize in helping learners who already have some basic knowledge of Japanese and want to expand their ability to use a wider range of expressions. I can teach conversational Japanese, business Japanese, Japanese for certification exams, as well as Japanese tailored to specific fields (IT, medical science, sports, music, traditional culture, etc.). For more details, please refer to the Teaching Methodology section.

I enjoy learning languages and have been studying English, German, Spanish, Mandarin, and Korean. I also like watching sports (such as soccer, sumo, tennis, and volleyball), listening to music (especially jazz and Latin), and watching plays.

First, I recommend taking a trial lesson to get a feel for the atmosphere of my classes. The key to improving your language skills is having a clear idea of what you want to be able to do with Japanese. In our first lesson, please share your learning objectives with me, and I will suggest a lesson plan tailored to your goals. I look forward to working with you!

Qualifications

- B.A. in linguistics

- Completed a 420-hour Japanese language education training course

- Passed the Japanese language teaching competency test

Experience

- 7 years of experience teaching Japanese online (one-on-one and group lessons)

- 16 years of experience providing live captioning for TV programs and conferences

- 5 years of experience in system and software engineering

I primarily speak Japanese during the lessons, but I use English when necessary.

All lessons are conducted via Zoom.

(1) Conversational Japanese

-- Practice using what you are learning in apps (Duolingo, DROPS, etc.)

-- Read aloud short stories, news scripts, poems, and other texts to build fluency in speaking

-- Practice intonation using drama scripts

-- Expand your vocabulary with podcasts

-- Learn new words and phrases that come up during free conversation

(2) Travel Japanese

-- There are 10 modules that cover common travel situations. You can pick the ones that match your goals and study period. Each module includes learning useful vocabulary and phrases, plus conversation practice.

(3) Business Japanese

-- Prepare for job interviews

-- Prepare presentations

-- Improve communication in your daily work

-- Read articles related to your industry and discuss ideas

-- Practice common business expressions, including honorific and humble forms, using textbooks

(4) Comprehensive Japanese

-- Use the textbook to practice and improve your grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening, and speaking skills in a balanced way. You may use either the textbook "Irodori(いろどり)" or "Marugoto(まるごと)" , but it’s perfectly fine to use a textbook you already have or one you prefer.

(5) Japanese in specific fields (IT, Sports, Music, Movies, Traditional culture, Medical science, Marketing etc.)
