About me - English
I'm Maria Sole, I'm Italian and I have a passion for languages. Since I was little, I've always been enchanted and intrigued by languages, how much they can determine the whole identity of an individual and let us communicate with each other, giving us a sense of ownership and belonging. Thus I got a Bachelor degree in Languages and Cultures of Asia and Mediterranean Africa, and stared working in that area while pursuing a Master Degree. I refined my English through multiples working experiences abroad and I'm eager to transfer some knowledge to student and have reciprocal exchange of ideas and point of views.
Qualifications & Experience
I started my experience in teaching during my Bachelor. Me and some other students created Parole in Movimento (Words on the move) school, which aimed to teach Italian and English to migrants residing and trying to work in the city. For more than 6 months, in person and online, I managed to organise various lessons, adapted to different language level, preparing the materials and talking with the students in order to have the most efficient approach and teaching method. Subsequently, In the last year, as a Social Program Assistant, I implemented various workshop for youth and at-risk beneficiaries who were willing to improve their English level and learn some Italian expression. The audience was diverse, I had to be flexible, adaptable, comprehensive and fast-thinking, but it was a success!
Teaching Approach
Following my experience, first as a student then as a tutor, I tend to prefer and informal way of teaching, were the student can feel free to talk without being afraid of making mistakes, its part of the learning process! I usually define a long-term program goal with every student, in order to have some main guidelines to follow during the process, while being flexible and adaptable. I would create a specific plan for each student, trying to find the best teaching methods. I would give some homework to the student, in order to start every lesson reviewing and checking it, then proceed with the new topic, which can be a topic for conversation or a grammar rule.
