Hi! My name is Carolina, I’m a native Brazilian, currently living in Brazil, and I’ve been teaching Portuguese to foreigners online since 2022 (to all levels!). I have a Bachelor’s degree in Portuguese (Letters) from the University of São Paulo, and did academic researches in Linguistics and Translation also there, Portuguese being always the target language. Today, my main job happens to be as a public servant (that’s how life is!), but teaching Portuguese is a serious and important hobby in my life, that brings me a lot of joy! So I make it something fun and light! You can’t imagine how happy I feel when I hear foreigners speaking in Portuguese, no matter in what level! I love languages and communication so much! I’ve already traveled to England, Italy, and Germany, having had interesting foreign language experiences abroad (some good, others not so good, haha!). I have studied English through many ways and with many teachers since I was a kid, Italian for a few years only with native teachers that lived in São Paulo, and the basics of many other languages through lots of different approaches... Besides languages, I love daily life stories, history, science, old movies, books, nature, art, foods, music, cartoons, sports... and rest!

My formal studies were at the University of São Paulo, in Brazil: I have a Bachelor’s degree in Letters (Portuguese) from there, and did academic researches in Applied Linguistics and Translation from Classical Latin to Portuguese also there. In both researches, I studied specially effects of formality and informality in spoken and written Portuguese. Since 2022, I have been teaching Portuguese to foreigners of many different levels, countries and ages, all of them with something in common: they wanted to learn Portuguese for personal reasons (communicating with dear people that are Brazilian, in special) and for travelling to Brazil someday. So since 2022 the focus of my teaching have been mostly on informal and conversational Portuguese. In the past, however, as I was a proof-reader and I taught Grammar and Writing to native Brazilian students, my focus was mainly on written formal Portuguese. I had only one foreign student at that time, and we had in-person lessons to improve his academic writing. So I’m also very much prepared if a student needs help on formal writing or a more formal style of speaking as well.

I can teach formal writing, but the informal and conversational Portuguese – at least the real, the true conversational Portuguese –, is my special teaching object because I’m very realistic when I describe it and I don’t use “artificial” Portuguese to facilitate things for foreigners, as many language teachers do. I want you to come to Brazil or talk to Brazilian people that are important to you knowing how to deal with the real Portuguese and in the right way. After all my language experiences and studies, I concluded that listening to spontaneous real-life dialogues in context first is the best starting point when we are learning something new in a language, no matter in what level we are: through these dialogues, we can “feel” the meaning and the conversational “music” of speech together, in a realistic way that will stay in our memory. From the dialogue, we can study many details, make exercises if we want, and develop all the other skills, knowing first the usages of the language with sound-and-meaning (together) in mind. After many of those dialogues, we can chat with more fluency because that natural ways of speaking will flow... And after those dialogues, we are able to even read better the books, because we will know the deeper “music” and meaning of the sentences. And that's the path that leads us to understand better even the not so well written "Whatsapp" messages typed by natives...

I have some types of lessons that cover all the language skills (see below). We can have full lessons of each type or a mix of two or more:

CONVERSATIONALIST

My lessons can be conversational if you just want to practice what you have studied previously. And as the conversation goes, I can help you to “find” the best words, pause to comment vocabulary, pronunciation, etc. In this case, I won’t force topics: I want you to come and talk about either Portuguese things, or life things you’d talk in your life, everything as if we were having a coffee together. Sometimes fluency is what matters the most, and I will correct some things only later. But sometimes I’ll correct you immediately, specially if it’s something that matters for clear communication. I can increase my level of correction depending on what level you prefer, just communication can’t be ever pushed aside.

READING NICE TEXTS

We can also choose together something for you to read out loud (something we both like), and I can check your pronunciation and your understanding.

DIALOGUE-BASED - AUDIOS AND VIDEOS:

When teaching a new Portuguese topic, I use small audios or real-life videos with dialogues as a starting point to then explain vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and to make exercises inspired in that material, because, as I said before, the real-life spontaneous dialogues will be the sources of our memory later, and it works better when we learn meaning-and-sound together and in context. I am not a teacher with lots of ready textbooks and exercises, I prefer to create the materials as we study together, depending on what we prefer at that moment.

Oi, pessoal! Meu nome é Carolina, sou brasileira, moro no Brasil e ensino português para estrangeiros online desde 2022 (para todos os níveis!). Meus estudos formais foram na Universidade de São Paulo, no Brasil: sou bacharel em Letras (Português) formada lá e também foi lá que realizei pesquisas acadêmicas em Linguística Aplicada e Tradução do Latim Clássico para o Português. Em ambas as pesquisas, estudei especialmente os efeitos de formalidade e informalidade no português falado e escrito. Desde 2022, ensino português para estrangeiros de diversos níveis, países e idades, todos com algo em comum: o desejo de aprender português por razões pessoais (para se comunicar com pessoas queridas que são brasileiras, em especial) e para viajar ao Brasil um dia. Assim, desde 2022, meu foco de ensino tem sido principalmente o português informal e conversacional. Antes, porém, quando era revisora de textos ​​e professora de Gramática e Redação para alunos brasileiros nativos, meu foco era principalmente o português formal escrito. Naquela época, eu tinha apenas um aluno estrangeiro, e as nossas aulas eram presenciais e voltadas para a escrita acadêmica. Então também estou bem preparada para auxiliar alunos que queiram estudar escrita formal ou um estilo de fala mais formal.para Estrangeiros.

Posso ensinar português escrito formal, mas o português mais informal das conversas (pelo menos o verdadeiro português conversacional!) é o meu diferencial, pois sou muito realista ao descrever o português usado nas conversas e não uso um português "forçado" para facilitar as coisas para estrangeiros, como muitos professores de idiomas fazem. Quero que você converse com brasileiros queridos para você sabendo como lidar com o português real, e da maneira correta.

Depois de todas as minhas experiências e estudos de idiomas, concluí que ouvir diálogos espontâneos da vida real com contexto é o melhor ponto de partida para aprender algo novo em um idioma, em qualquer nível: com diálogos, podemos "sentir" o significado e a "música" das frases de uma forma realista que ficará na nossa memória. A partir deles, conhecemos os usos da língua, com som-e-significado (juntos) em mente, e então podemos estudar muitos detalhes, fazer exercícios se quisermos e desenvolver todas as outras habilidades. Depois de muitos desses diálogos, podemos conversar com mais fluência porque a forma natural de falar vai fluir... E depois deles, conseguimos até ler melhor os livros, porque reconheceremos a "música" e o significado mais profundo das frases. E esse é o caminho que nos leva a entender melhor até mesmo as mensagens de bate-papo não tão bem escritas, digitadas por nativos...

Tenho alguns tipos de aulas que abrangem todas as habilidades (ver abaixo). Podemos ter aulas inteiras de cada tipo ou uma mistura de dois ou mais:

CONVERSACIONALISTA

Minhas aulas podem ser conversacionais se você quiser apenas praticar o que já estudou. E, conforme a conversa flui, posso ir ajudando você a encontrar as melhores palavras, fazendo pausas para comentar vocabulário, pronúncia etc. Nesse caso, não vou forçar tópicos: quero que você venha e fale sobre coisas do português ou sobre coisas da vida que você conversaria no seu dia a dia, tudo como se estivéssemos tomando um café juntos. Às vezes, a fluência é o que mais importa, e corrijo algumas coisas apenas mais tarde. Mas às vezes eu corrijo imediatamente, especialmente se for algo importante para uma comunicação clara. Posso aumentar ou diminuir o nível de correção dependendo da sua preferência, mas a comunicação clara nunca pode ficar em segundo plano.

LEITURA DE TEXTOS AGRADÁVEIS

Também podemos escolher juntos algo para você ler em voz alta (algo que ambos gostemos), e eu posso ir verificando sua pronúncia e compreensão.

COM BASE EM DIÁLOGOS (ÁUDIOS E VÍDEOS):

Ao ensinar um novo tópico de português, uso pequenos áudios ou vídeos com diálogos reais como ponto de partida para explicar vocabulário, gramática, pronúncia e criar exercícios inspirados nesse material, porque, como eu disse antes, os diálogos espontâneos da vida real serão as fontes da nossa memória mais tarde, e tudo funciona melhor quando aprendemos o significado e o som juntos e em contexto. Não sou uma professora com muitos livros didáticos e exercícios prontos, prefiro criar os materiais à medida que estudamos juntos, dependendo do que preferirmos naquele momento.

Ciao a tutti! Mi chiamo Carolina e sono brasiliana, quindi la mia lingua madre è il portoghese. Sono nata a San Paolo e ho vissuto in Brasile per tutta la vita, in parte nello stato di San Paolo e in parte a Porto Alegre (Rio Grande do Sul).

Insegno a tutti i livelli: principiante, intermedio e avanzato. Parlo inglese se necessario (e mi piace confrontare inglese e portoghese quando è utile). Oppure possiamo parlare solo in portoghese, se preferite. A proposito, sono una "nerd della linguistica" :D!

Ho una laurea in Lettere (portoghese) presso l'Università di San Paolo (USP) e ho svolto ricerche sulla scrittura e l'oralità in due campi: Linguistica applicata all'insegnamento e all'apprendimento del portughese e Traduzione dal latino al portoghese (un discorso di Cicerone). Questa formazione mi è stata molto utile come insegnante di portoghese agli stranieri, per molte ragioni. In primo luogo, perché, pur essendo madrelingua, è importante avere l'atteggiamento di un linguista, prendere le distanze, analizzare e spiegare come funziona una lingua a chi sta imparando a parlarla. In secondo luogo, l'esperienza nel campo della traduzione mi ha insegnato a gestire le abitudini e le sfumature di significato di ogni lingua.

Inizialmente ero un'insegnante di portoghese per brasiliani nativi, insegnavo loro grammatica e scrittura, quindi il portoghese formale era il mio obiettivo. Quando insegno portoghese agli stranieri, però, considero principalmente il portoghese informale e realistico e non lascio che il mio portoghese diventi troppo artificiale per "facilitare" le cose agli stranieri, anche quando rallento (posso parlare più lentamente, ma non in un modo che si discosti dalla realtà). Mostro agli stranieri entrambe le forme della vera lingua portoghese: quella informale e quella formale. Gli usi, le regole e le pronunce sono diversi. Noterete che c'è una sorta di "divario" tra loro, e voglio aiutarvi a gestirlo.

E c'è di più: sebbene i miei studi e le mie esperienze si siano concentrati principalmente sulla scrittura, ho concluso che l'oralità e la conversazione sono intrinseche a tutti i testi scritti, in modo così vitale che non si può in alcun modo trascurare l'espressività "orale" e separare il formale dall'informale come l'acqua dall'olio. In altre parole: abbiamo bisogno dell'oralità anche per scrivere un buon testo (pensate a Cicerone)! Un buon testo è in realtà un "discorso". Se volete migliorare la vostra scrittura, sono sempre pronto ad aiutarvi, considerando anche l'"oralità". D'altra parte, ho cercato di studiare sempre di più l'"oralità" della vita quotidiana, le espressioni idiomatiche, il portoghese parlato dai madrelingua, la lingua "fuori dai libri di scuola", per così dire... Scrivere e leggere sono importanti, ma spero di aiutare i miei studenti anche con il parlato spontaneo: portiamo più "realismo" agli studi portoghesi! Voglio che abbiate a mente la musicalità del portoghese. E tutto questo in modo rilassante e leggero, perché voglio davvero che imparare il portoghese sia per voi un'esperienza piacevole, piacevole e piacevole :)! Divertiamoci!

A proposito, scrivo molto e adoro parlare! :) Di molti argomenti! Ma adoro ascoltare e mi piace soprattutto sentire gli stranieri parlare in portoghese, a prescindere dal livello! E le persone in generale si sentono a loro agio a parlare con me. Amo comunicare! La comunicazione è una delle cose più importanti nella vita: abbiamo bisogno di esprimerci e sentirci compresi, proprio come abbiamo bisogno di cibo (e cibo delizioso!). E spero che portiate qualche stuzzichino e una bevanda calda per le nostre lezioni, rilassatevi e sentitevi i benvenuti! Parleremo di argomenti di vita e anche del portoghese stesso, con un approccio linguistico.

- Laurea in Lettere - Portoghese (presso l'Università di São Paulo, Brasile).

- Ricerca in Linguistica Applicata (Portoghese): studi sul rapporto tra scrittura e oralità nei testi degli studenti. L'obiettivo era quello di migliorare l'insegnamento della scrittura, considerando l'importanza dell'espressività orale.

- Ricerca sulla Traduzione (dal Latino Classico al Portoghese): traduzione di un brano dal "De signis" di Cicerone. Questa esperienza è stata ottima per imparare la Retorica di Cicerone (i suoi talenti di scrittura/linguaggio!) e anche per scoprire come le lingue "vedono" il mondo in modo diverso.

- Lezioni di Portoghese (Scrittura e Grammatica) per madrelingua e stranieri, in scuole e classi private,

- Revisione dei Testi (Portoghese - Brasile).

- Attualmente lavoro nel servizio pubblico.

METODOLOGIA:

Le mie lezioni qui sono principalmente conversazionali, ma le divido in due tipologie principali:

1) teoriche ma conversazionali (principalmente per PRINCIPIANTI),

2) conversazionali ma teoriche (principalmente per studenti INTERMEDI e AVANZATI).

CONVERSAZIONE, ASCOLTO, LETTURA, SCRITTURA, GRAMMATICA, PRONUNCIA, VOCABOLARIO:

È importante studiare tutti questi argomenti nel loro insieme, combinandoli durante le lezioni.
